John Nicholson
Over the past two years, John has been involved in several projects centred around public safety.
Another year has flown by, and as 2020 comes ever closer, we thought we’d ask our TEAM Mates what they’ve been up to since joining our collective of specialists two years ago…

The Safe Road Alliance (SRA) Level Crossings Upgrade Programme is a scheme that aligns closely with TEAM’s own commitments to safety improvements. Led by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), the scheme is delivering safety improvements to roading infrastructure and rail crossings across the State Highway network. John is proud to have completed 8 of these level crossing upgrades in 8 months, and is expecting to complete another three in the coming months. John is looking forward to getting a consistent, more manageable production line in place for the SRA Level Crossings going forward, as this will provide consistency and work-bank assurance for the contractors and teams involved.
John also worked with Paul to deliver the Kaikoura Earthquake Recovery projects. To protect the safety and resilience of railway operations, KiwiRail required the installation of remote monitoring systems to monitor the stability and movement of slopes adjacent to the rail corridor, and to alert of impending rockfall which could jeopardise rail safety. The systems had to be rebuilt multiple times after the cyclones and severe storms that affected the region in the wake of the Kaikoura earthquake. John is proud to have been part of the resilient project team that pulled together and delivered this project in spite of multiple setbacks.
John has been and is still currently involved with NCTIR, working to provide a new telecommunications fibre backbone network for a consortium involving the NZTA and a number of telco service providers – 50km of infrastructure development between Clarence and Parikawa.
In future, John is looking forward to the release of Phase 2 of the Safer Roads Scheme and getting stuck in. He is also excited about the commencement in earnest later this month of the installation of the new telecommunications fibre backbone network.
Outside of work, John is most looking forward to spending quality time with his family, with a holiday in mid-January.
