The Beacon Point Reservoir includes a 5 million litre potable water reservoir, rising and falling main, and pump chambers to feed the expanding population of Wānaka. The additional potable water supply connects and provides resilience to the existing potable water supply.

Constructed on a difficult-to-access site in Wānaka, the earthworks were designed to ensure a cut-and-fill balance, minimize materials imported to and exported from site, and provide sensitive screening and landscaping.

The sectional steel tank was constructed using hydraulic jacking techniques to minimize the hazards of working at height and to eliminate the need for large cranes which would have difficulty accessing the site.
