The original bleachers at Caroline Bay were built in 1957 and have been an important part of the Timaru community since then. Having reached the end of its life, Timaru District Council engaged TEAM Projects to lead the bleachers replacement project, with a deadline of Christmas 2022 for their completion, in time for the annual Caroline Bay carnival and festivities.
TEAM Projects advised that a Design and Build contract would be appropriate, and wrote, tendered and managed the contract documentation and evaluation process for the selection of an appropriate contractor to design and deliver the works. TEAM Projects’ knowledge and expertise ensured that the new bleachers were designed to the latest safety and accessibility standards.
Key to the project’s success was the planning and timing of the demolition of the existing bleachers and the construction of the new. Demolition commenced immediately after the events held at Easter 2022, with construction completed by November 2022 in time for the Carnival. Preparatory works and the progression of the design, pre-fabrication of precast concrete units and steelwork, meant that the project could be fast-tracked to hit the required deadline.
The new bleachers were successfully delivered on time, in early December 2022.
