Project Pure Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

Expansion of Wanaka Wastewater Treatment Plant, using sequencing batch reactor (SPR), activated sludge processing and high-efficiency oxygen transfer to reduce organic matter in wastewater.

Date: April 2022 to December 2023

Client: Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDDC)

Project Location: Wānaka, Queenstown

Services Provided: Engineer to the Contract

TEAM was Engineer to the Contract for QLDC’s expansion of Wānaka Wastewater Treatment Plant. This project was designed to be net-positive in terms of environmental impact. The expansion uses a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) fill-and-draw activated sludge system for wastewater treatment, and high-efficiency oxygen transfer to reduce organic matter in the wastewater. The process produces grey water which is dispersed through multiple points and used to irrigate the surrounding farmland.
