Tegel Grain Silos at Takanini Feed Mill
Construction of 18,000 tonnes of grain storage for additional storage, including a and conveyance system to unload grain ships at a much faster rate.
Date: Completed January 2023
Client: Tegel
Project Location: Takanini, Auckland
Services Provided: Project Management
Tegel needed additional storage and the ability to unload grain ships at a much faster rate. In addition to three large grain silos, TEAM managed the construction of a new conveyance system, which would allow them to unload a truck in 8 minute intervals.
One of the challenges of this project was the need to procure multiple specialist engineering projects from overseas, all during the COVID-19 shipping backlog. The silos are 18m high and 18m wide, holding about 6,000 metric tonnes of grain per silo. The project included piled foundations and pad foundation, utilising top-down construction methods to maximise time efficiency, cost savings, and safety.
TEAM completed the project in just 18 months.
