George Forbes Building Student Recreational Facility Stage 1
A new, much needed student facility for Lincoln University.
Client: Lincoln University
Project Location: Christchurch
Services Provided: Project Management
TEAM Projects delivered a new, much needed student facility for Lincoln University. Redevelopment of the George Forbes Building was integral to the campus Master Plan and redevelopment programme. The first stage featured recreational areas, a funky cafeteria, and lounging and informal study areas tailored to student wants and needs. The space was designed to align with Lincoln University’s philosophies of environmental responsibility.
There were a number of challenges inherent with keeping the building live during the redevelopment. Advance works included the relocation of existing tenants including the University’s bookshop and printery. TEAM managed a number of risks throughout the project, including student and staff movements, site security, asbestos removal, noise hazards, and construction safety hazards.
Lessons to be shared
In a building such as George Forbes, which has evolved over many years and suffered the consequences of major earthquakes, it is inevitable that unknown issues will be encountered. In planning the project we undertook a great deal of investigative and preparatory works to identify potential issues in advance.
We engaged advance works to de-risk projects and ensure that the main works could be delivered within the available time constraints.
